$12,000 Adkins Diet

I LOVE the Adkins diet. I have turned to it several times in my life to take off the pounds. HOWEVER after 15 days of Adkins this spring I found myself in the Emergency Room with severe vision loss. When I say severe I mean the only letter on the vision chart was the large letter E on the first line, Beyond that it was all a blur.

After 12 hours in the emergency room that included a cat scan of my head, full blood and urine work up (with NO medical insurance),the doctors were stumped. My eye pressure was 3x normal and no one could figure out why. When my tests came back I was told "Your urine tests show that you are in ketosis. GREAT! I said, Adkins is working.
I was then told by the ER Doc that diabetics should Never allow themselves to have ketosis.

The long and short of it is that they told me to stop the diet and get some carbs in right away. Since I was laid off from my job and no longer had medical insurance the ER cost was over $12,000...
Three days after I was off the diet my vision was back to normal.
So, bottom line is BEWARE DIABETICS!
