1600 blood sugar reading

When my daughter was eleven yrs old she had what I thought was a severe case of the flu for five days. After finally taking her to the doctor, mainly because she was experiencing weakness in her legs, she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Her Dr. was going to admit her to our local hospital to re-hydrate her. The paramedic questioned her symptoms, checked her blood sugar and my daughter, what she remembers, had a reading of 1600, but I remember 1800.
About 30 mins later she was air-lifted to our area trauma center. There she was kept in the ICU unit for nearly four days before her levels were finally down to the 700's. Four days later she was released on 120 units of insulin twice a day w/ a reading in the 300's. Months later she was diabetes free, thanks to diet and exercise. Today Feb 2011 she is still free of diabetes checking her levels monthly. This disease can be beat if properly cared for.
