409 Blood Sugar Reading

My brother is a non insulin dependent diabetic. He stepped on a needle that got lodged in his foot, he was unaware that the needle was in his foot because of severe neuropathy that comes with diabetes.

The foot became inflamed and infected and we rushed him to the hospital to have it checked. They removed the needle and checked his blood sugar levels when they found out that he was diabetic due to the severe infection that had taken over his foot and was moving up his leg, the nurse told me today that before they gave him insulin he registered a 409 reading!!!! Possibly elevated that high from the infection but none the less it truly was 409
