Alexa Painter had blood sugar of 2495 upon diagnosis of TYPE 1 Diabetes
by Penni Wetherell
(Staunton, VA)
My daughter Alexa Painter holds the highest blood sugar record for a TYPE 1 DIABETIC with the Guinness Book of World Records, which was 2495. This was her level upon diagnosis upon admission into Roanoke, Va Community Hospital, and is confirmed. No blood glucose metere on the market that can be purchased over the counter can register a level this high, but of course, hospitals do have the capability to register such a reading. This happened in 1991 when Alexa was 2. She is 21 now and a college student, and in my opinion, a miracle child.
The GBWR last year will show an individual with a record for a higher blood sugar reading than 2495; however, it was not from diabetes. But since it was a "blood sugar reading" Alexa holds the record until last year. Look in the 2004,m 2005, 2006 I believe until last year and you will read about her blood sugar record for highest blood sugar level, and it is because she was diabetic. She has also been in several magazines, i.e. Diabetic Living, US news and World Report, and a member of Children's Congress.
Diabetes is a serious illness; especially type 1. It is scary and can kill in many different ways.....directly and indirectly. If you are Type 1 diabetic, check your blood sugar often...change your eating habits, your living habits....exercise...do what you have to do if you want to live longer. It's a choice...sometimes you do everything right and you still have high numbers. But don't let it reduce the quality of your life. I think stem cell is the answer for a cure. Do your research and do all you can to fight for yourself and for others with this illness. God Bless.
