CGMS malfunctioned.

594 is the highest reading I've ever gotten. I was wearing a CGMS that malfunctioned, it kept telling me I was low and I kept eating... finally I tested on my meter (accu chek Aviva) and got a 594. I washed my hands and retested at 588.
I was diagnosed with a blood sugar of 425. A few hours after going on insulin, my number was still up at 453. My A1c at that time indicates that my average over the previous few months was close to 400. My doctor says the highest A1c he's ever seen is 21%. The record blood glucose appears to be 5600.
