I was diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic last November. When I arrived at the hospital with all the major symptoms of the onset of diabetes I was admitted and then a nurse came and checked my blood sugar level with a glucometer, after several seconds it read error. She tried again and the same error code came up, she asked another nurse if it was functioning correctly, she went and got a new glucometer and the results were the same. They drew 2 vials of blood and had the lab check the sugar level, after about an hour the nurse returned and said they needed to draw more blood because the lab thinks that the results couldn't be right, so they took another 3 vials of blood.twenty minutes later the nurses and doctors came in and said they we're transferring me to the ICU and that my blood sugar level was 1408 and that they needed to start treating me at once.I asked all the nurses and doctors if they ever had a patient with a sugar level that high and they said not even close.
