Detailed High Blood Sugar Experience
by Marty
(Miamisburg, Ohio, Montgomery)
Age 50, Caucasian male, type2 diabetic since 2001, average exercise, 283 lbs, 6'-2" hgt, not as active as younger years.
Average glucose readings while taking oral-medications and Solo-star slow acting insulin: 156 - 182. (down from 240's year prior by using slow acting insulin)
Today 5-19-2011 I received a cortisone injection for tendon inflammation in my left wrist, yes, I was warned about elevated glucose readings because of steroid injection.
5 hours after injection and a average homemade meal, my glucose reading was 543, concerned, I took my slow acting insulin injection and oral medications on time, but added my trusty A.L.A. (Alpha Lipoic Acid, synthetic) at 400 mg. I use it for immediate lowering of my levels in these dire times. Found information about it from German records, they use it to treat diabetes.
Waiting 15 minutes, reading reached 569, then at 15 minute intervals lowered 529, 507, also drinking water 500ml at a time to enhance hydration. Currently it reached 526 while typing this information.
The added water gave me a bloated feeling but was promoting hydration and urination, which the kidneys will help the body rid excess sugar. I got a headache through the peaking, but I feel slightly abnormal with the accelerated sugar levels. I did not take any pain relievers for fear of falling asleep and possible slip into coma status. I walked and talked as normal, my wife said I seemed in control. I did however, find trouble looking for words while communicating to her my results.
I am seeing 571 reading now, recommending a hospital visit for fast acting insulin injection.
Unfortunately, I do not recommend staying at it around 570+ the coma risk is not worth the appeal to stay home.
