Top 9 Diabetic Books
There are over 10,000 diabetic books on amazon.com. Incredible! How can one even begin to choose a good diabetes book with all of these choices? I have listed my choices for the best books on diabetes on this page, many of which I have previously reviewed on this site.
I have also listed some ebook or electronic book choices. Ebooks can be some of the best resources of information.

Introduction To Diabetes
These two books are interesting. The first provides a standard overview of how most people approach diabetes management. It is great resource to start your journey.
Once you get comfortable with the basics and want to learn more about diabetes, the second book provides and excellent history lesson and hope for the future.
Your First Year with Diabetes: What To Do, Month by Month
If you are new to diabetes, this is the place to start. I don't agree with everything this book espouses, but it is an essential starting point to learning about all of the basic diabetes information. Look no further for your introductory course.
Diabetes Rising - How A Rare Disease Became A Modern Pandemic And What To Do About It
This book will blow the lid off of what you may have learned or thought about diabetes. This is hands, down my TOP choice when it comes to learning about diabetes, beyond what to eat, etc. Do yourself a HUGE favor and get this book.
There are more choices about what to eat when you have diabetes than just about any other condition you could have. Truly, this can be an overwhelming subject.
I have reviewed MANY different diabetic diets, so which book you choose, depends a bit on what diet you decide to follow. Here are my favorites.
The South Beach Diet Supercharged: Faster Weight Loss and Better Health for Life
Personally, I like the South Beach Diet. This book is the must start resources if you want to learn more about this eating method. It also has a great exercise section for easy to follow exercise routines. The South Beach Diet is very healthy and based on a Mediterranean diet. Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution: The Complete Guide to Achieving Normal Blood Sugars
Dr. Bernstein is one dedicated individual. He felt so strongly about his diet choice that he went to medical school at 48 years old, so that his diet philosophy would be given more credence by other health care professionals.
I have more fully reviewed Dr. Bernstein's diet here. He advocates a strict low carb diet and has sharply criticized the American Diabetes Association diets. One of the classic all time diabetic books.
This diet has some of the best research supporting it as a healthy eating style for diabetics and non diabetics alike. At the bottom of my Mediterranean Diet Review, there are three different books I recommend.
Meal Planning Books
Good diabetic books discussing meal planning are hard to come by. I think I have found the best solution out there. This company of registered dieticians has over 16 different meal planning options you can choose.
The diabetic plan is very comprehensive, but there are many calorie based plans (e.g., 1500, 1800, etc.) and specialty eating style plans (e.g., vegetarian and vegan).
Click here to review all their plans. (click on the ebook menu item once you are there.)
Most books have at least some recipes. However, I have reviewed and listed my TOP 5 choices for diabetic cook books in this article.
My absolute favorite is The Miami Mediterranean Diet.
Cutting Edge Diabetic Books
Here are a few of the more intriguing books on diabetes that you will not find your doctor endorsing. I like to read fringe books on diabetes because I think there is a lot of information that we do not know about when it comes to the condition.
Moreover, I think that the American Medical community, including the American Diabetes Association, has their own influences that are not necessarily always in line with finding the best solutions to diabetes health and cures. This is not to say that they are bad, only that I like to review many different and competing viewpoints.
How to Reverse Diabetes Now!
Arguably, the most popular ebook on this subject is Reverse Diabetes Now. The author has quite a few things to say about the current medical establishment. A must read for those of you who are a little suspicious about authority!
Death to Diabetes: The Six Stages of Type 2 Diabetes Control & Reversal
This diabetic book is another interesting, and popular, resource on diabetes. The author gives a very good look at how he has "beaten" diabetes. Well, worth taking a look at.
As a self professed "jock" I never thought I would have a problem exercising. Once I reached my forties, all bets were off. It seemed a little (a lot!) harder to get out there and "just do it". Moreover, the results did not come nearly as fast as they did when I was in my twenties. Sound Familiar?
I have found that Interval Training works great (and has the science to prove it!). You can make it as easy or hard as you want. For an initial over view of what interval training is and how it can help you, take a look at the The South Beach Diet Supercharged.
The Interval Training Workout: Build Muscle and Burn Fat with Anaerobic Exercise
This book, is written by a medical doctor with a forward by Carl Lewis and is a more comprehensive resource on how to get started with interval training.
Well, there you have it, my favorite diabetic books. Hopefully, you find one you enjoy reading. If you have any other favorite diabetic books, let me know.
