Don't Believe it Can't Happen

I had a kidney/pancreas transplant in Dec. '00 after 3 years of Dialysis. I was 29, and had diabetes since I was 8. My kidneys gave out after my daughters birth. 7 years after the transplant the kidney rejected, followed 3 years later by the pancreas. Apparently this is normal and expected, only I didn't know that and was in denial that I could loose my transplanted pancreas. I was feeling horrible and finally thought to test my sugar after only checking it monthly and always getting perfect reading. I kept getting an error message and thought I better have it checked out. I was admitted into the hospital from the ER, and my doctor came in the next day after getting me through the night saying that she was putting me in her journal of amazing people. My blood sugar reading had been in the 1560 range. The only other person she'd encountered with a reading that high was a guy in the 1400 range, but he was in a coma. I had been super tired, nauseated, and a little cranky, but I was walking and talking just like any other day.
