Glucose over 500

September 1st, my non diabetic husband staggered around the parking lot delirious and collapsed on the pavement. When the EMT took him to the ER, the nurse later told me the EMT team had tested his sugar level at over 500. She shook her head in disbelief and said they must have made an error. My mother was a Type 1 diabetic, and also found it hard to believe. For 11 days, his doctors struggled with insulin shots to get his glucose levels down past the 400's and 300's to below 100. No explanation was ever given for the high levels. He is now home with Type 2. This story sounds tame compared to the other gentleman's readings.
