Kelly - Great Omnipod Review

by Kelly

I have never used another type of pump before the Omnipod, which I have been using for over 2 years now. Before that, 7-10 injections per day with not great control.

I really do like the Omnipod as it frees me from the injections, stores all my data in the PDM and does the calculations for me. The calculations often need adjusting/tweaking which I do myself. I did get a lot of education from my diabetic educator, have had education in nutrition and carb counting and see my diabetic doctor every 3 months. I am having much more normal BGs than on the injectons.

There are some problems: I have had a few malfunctioning pods but the company replaced them and I always have extra. Also, I seem to have increasing BGs when I move the pod to a new site for a few hours. I have learned to give an extra bolus when changing pods and that helps. Occasionally I have to give myself an injection but not very often.

The one thing I don't like is that the screen is not bright enough to read easily when I am out in the sunshine. This needs to be remedied. (I can read my phone screen just fine.)

The adhesive works very well for me during exercise, showering, swimming, etc. It sticks well and does not cause any irritation. Occasionally I will bump one and it may come loose.

Overall, I am very satisfied.
