Linda Moredoc - Confused

If this is a 50/30/20 ratio. How does 4 servings of fat at 45 cals. each serving add up to 20% of a 1800 cal diet? Or lean meats at 55 cal per serving add up to 6 servings at 30%. Your math does not add up.

Editor’s Note: The exchange diet can be particularly troublesome to implement for many. It should be noted that the exact ratio and category make up of any 1800 calorie meal plan can and will vary based on a number of different factors. These factors can include weight, overall condition, and activity level.

While I am not sure of the math you refer to in the comment, take a look at how the food exchanges can vary amongst different plans. This one from Massachusetts General Hospital is but one example.

The plan in our article was pulled substantially in part from the National Institute of Health.

Each individual should consult with their care team to accurately determine the right mix of exchanges, calories, foods, etc.

As for other resources, check out this tool from the NIH. It does a good job showing how planning each meal and daily food intake can change.

Lastly, for more in depth information, far more than was or could be provided in this article, take a look at this book from the American Diabetes Association, The Official Pocket Guide to Diabetic Exchanges. The book is only $6 dollars, but provides great information.
