What is Normal Fasting Blood Glucose?

Achieving a normal fasting blood glucose level is the whole key to proper diabetes management. Glucose, or sugar, is the main energy source for the body. Your body primarily produces glucose from the food that you eat. A person measures the level of glucose in their blood so that they can determine if their body is properly processing the glucose.

There are multiple ways to test the level of blood glucose, the Fasting Blood Glucose Test is one of them. This test is usually used to diagnose diabetes and can be used to monitor diabetics on an ongoing basis. A normal level is between 70 mg/dL and 100 mg/dL. The test is administered in the morning prior to eating, as the test requires a "fast" of at least 8 hours.

A blood glucose level above 126mg/dL is considered a diabetes diagnosis (subject to a confirmatory test). A level between 101 mg/dL and 125 mg/dL is considered "pre-diabetes".
