One Person's High may be Another Person's Average

Glucose readings at 400 to 500, while high, are not unusual. My fourteen year old son was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes when he was eight. At least several times a week his glucose levels reach 300 to 499 and,at times, reads as "HI" which means his level is beyond the 500 reading capability of his meter. He must check his blood every three hours and inject insulin to try to prevent this, but even with close monitoring and without eating, his blood naturally soars. Where a non-diabetic's blood will be between 80 and 120, his normal functional level- the level his dr's want him to shoot for, is between 120 and 150. Much below that, he gets light headed and sick to his stomach.
