Getting enough calcium is very important because the body cannot produce it. You must get enough Calcium through food or via supplementation. Every day your body loses calcium through your skin, hair, sweat, nails and waste.
If you do not replace the lost Calcium, your body will take it from your bones, making your bones weaker and increasing the possibility that they will break. Hopefully, this last part got your attention, it do me when I first read it!
Why OsteoProCare?
What I have learned is that few nutritional supplements are more fully supported by the National Institute of Health than calcium and Vitamin D. As such, there are literally hundreds of calcium supplement choices on the market today. But, which one is the best? More importantly:
Top 6 Reasons I recommend OsteoProCare:
While this is not a direct reason to choose OsteoProCare, I wanted to add it here because I know that most people reading this page will read this statement. Whether you choose to purchase OsteoProCare or not, you should know the dangers of Osteoporosis and Diabetes and choose an appropriate supplement for yourself.
Liquids are simply easier to swallow and absorb more than pills. In fact, The Physician's Desk Reference (1998) states that as little as 10-20% of a pill's ingredients are absorbed, compared with as much as 80-98% for a liquid.
This is especially the case for Calcium. The National Institute of Health states that "liquid calcium supplements dissolve well because they are broken down before they enter the stomach."
Despite all of this, I just get sick of swallowing a ton of pills every day. I would rather swallow a liquid.
OsteoProCare would be great as just a calcium supplement, however it is GREAT supplement due to its added ingredients Vitamin D3, Chondroitin, and Glucosamine.
Vitamin D3 is critical for absorbing and using calcium and phosphorous, which are important in the care of healthy bones. Insufficient vitamin D can lead to bones become thin, brittle, or misshapen. For people with diabetes, vitamin D3 has even wider health implications, as detailed in our vitamin D article. OsteoProCare has 1000IU of vitamin D3.
Chondroitin plays a key role in the resiliency of cartilage. Initial research suggests that chondroitin may help increase the formation of new cartilage, improving the symptoms associated with osteoarthritis.
Glucosamine consists of glucose and glutamine, an amino acid. Glucosamine is necessary to form a molecule called glycosaminoglycan, which is used to repair cartilage and tissue. The production of glucosamine tends to slow as we age, requiring supplementation.
Here is the Product Data Sheet for OsteoProCare.
OsteoProCare includes 75% of the daily recommended value of magnesium and 80% for chromium.
Magnesium is an essential mineral for human nutrition, promoting the formation of bones and teeth and assisting with the absorption of calcium and potassium. It helps muscles contract and relax, while producing and transporting energy within the body. Some magnesium research suggests that it may help lower blood glucose levels.
Chromium is also an essential mineral and helps metabolize fats and carbohydrates. It also aids in insulin metabolism. Like magnesium, some early chromium research suggests that it may help lower blood glucose levels.
I have said it several times on this site, but it is worth repeating. Over 6,000 healthcare professionals recommend Life Force products. Prior to being offered for direct sale to consumers, the company only offered it products through health care professionals (as Doctor's Signature). The company has been in business for over 20 years and has an A+ ranking, the best available, from the Better Business Bureau.
Don't like it? Don't want it? Whatever! The company offers a 45 day money back guarantee. Click here for details.
How Much Calcium Do You Need?
The NIH recommends different amounts of calcium depending upon your age.
| Age | Amount |
| Children 1-3 years | 500mg |
| Children 4-8 years | 800mg |
| Children 9-13 years | 1,300mg |
| Teens 14-18 years | 1,300mg |
| Adults 19-50 years | 1,000mg |
| Adults 51+ years | 1,200mg |
As you will notice, the greatest need is during the teenage years when we are growing, then again during our older years. The NIH states that up to 2,500mg a day is safe for both children and adults.
Because your body cannot absorb or metabolize large doses of calcium, you should take one serving of OsteoProCare in the morning and 1 serving at night. Food helps to metabolize calcium, so it is recommended that you do not take the product on an empty stomach.
