Really High Blood Glucose

I have been told I am type 1 1/2 a new type from the Diabetes Association because I wasn't born diabetic and now my life depends on insulin. I became real confused and sick and my readings often was over 500 even with oral meds and shots. I am 47 year old female. July 4, 2010 I was taken by EMT from my home to the hospital where I ended up in ICU for 3 days and a week in the hospital. My sugar according to lab test was 953! I was somewhat aware of what was going on but admit a lot of the trip to the hospital and the er. I have been told my body only makes 0.5 insulin on my own, they took me off oral meds and now I take adidra and lantus insulin and they say without it I will die. It still goes up and I have to monitor it regular. So yes you can be alive and walking when your sugar goes real high. I wish I had a home meter that will tell me just how high it does go.
