This is a great new article that discusses the frustrations many people have when working with a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE). While the article starts off with frustration, it ends with hope. Very Nice.
The key takeaway is that often the person with diabetes is feeling like a victim and the CDE inadvertently plays against this dynamic, leading to anger, hurt and upset for all those involved.
Instead, a new program by the American Association of Diabetes Educators seeks to try and stop this inadvertent cycle and empowers both CDE’s and people with diabetes to work together productively.
Instead of having a “you should do this” accusatory dialogue, the CDE should work to establish a coaching relationship that helps motivate the patient to make active steps to achieving optimal health. Check out this Article at ASweetLife.org.
