Sometimes we get stuck living in our own little worlds. I thought it would be interesting to look at the “big picture” of diabetes throughout the world. As I discovered, as bad as we think we have it, sadly there are many other countries who have it a lot worse than us.
Take these statistics compiled by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). The following chart shows the countries that have the highest percentage of the population having diabetes.
This is incredible. While many of these countries are small, the disastrous affect of diabetes is huge. To put this into perspective, 7.8 percent of the United States has diabetes.
